The IPL 2026 Record Buy
Kolkata Knight Riders bought Cameron Green for ₹25.20 crore, the most ever paid for an overseas player at an IPL auction.
- ₹25.20 crore ≈ $2.64 million at today's rate (reported at about $2.78 million at the time of the December 2025 auction, when the rupee was stronger).
- Under new auction rules, Green's actual contract is capped at ₹18 crore (about $1.89 million). The amount above the cap goes to a BCCI welfare fund.
Converted figures use today's exchange rate (₹95.29 per US dollar, as of 30 October 2026) and update automatically as the rupee moves.
Auction Prices Conversion Table
| IPL price | In USD today |
|---|---|
| ₹30 lakh (base price) | ~$31,500 |
| ₹1 crore | ~$105,000 |
| ₹5 crore | ~$525,000 |
| ₹10 crore | ~$1.05 million |
| ₹18 crore | ~$1.89 million |
| ₹25 crore | ~$2.62 million |
A Rule of Thumb
₹1 crore is roughly $100,000. So a ₹12 crore player is roughly a $1.2 million player. That rule is a little generous at today's rate (the true figure is about $105,000), but it is close enough to follow along live.
In pounds, ₹1 crore is roughly £78,600 (at ₹127.22 per pound).
Why Prices Look Different in Dollars Each Year
The same ₹20 crore bid is worth fewer dollars when the rupee weakens. When comparing records across seasons, compare in rupees, or convert each year at that year's rate.
