Why a ₹1 Crore US Salary Is Not a ₹1 Crore Indian Salary
A US salary converted into crores looks enormous, but it is spent at US prices. Rent, healthcare and childcare can take a much bigger share of a US paycheck. A fairer comparison uses purchasing power, not the exchange rate alone. Our NRI salary guide walks through that comparison.
Where the $100,000 H-1B Fee Stands
A $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions was announced in September 2025. On 8 June 2026 a federal court in Massachusetts struck it down, and on 24 July 2026 the appeals court declined to reinstate it while the appeal continues. The underlying proclamation was due to expire on 20 September 2026 and could be renewed, so check the latest position before making decisions.
For scale, $100,000 ≈ ₹95.3 lakh, close to a full year's pay for many H-1B workers.
Quick Conversion Rule
$1,000 ≈ ₹95,300, so $100,000 ≈ ₹95.3 lakh. For a rough number, multiply dollars by the rupee rate (₹95.29 today), or simply treat each $10,000 as about ₹10 lakh.
